Lo Brutto Stahl is pleased to announce Current, the first solo exhibition with the gallery by Paris-based artist Hélène Janicot.

The exhibition opens on Friday, September 12 (6–9pm) in Paris and runs until Friday, October 10, 2025. It is accompanied by a text written by Katia Leonelli.

Hélène Janicot’s practice is rooted in the collection of disparate materials: offcuts, bark, and manufactured objects coexist with elements that deteriorate under light or heat (moss, latex, plastic), with attention paid to surfaces, skins, and sheds. This sedimented matter gives rise to precarious assemblages that hold together in fragile balances, where each gesture (folding, cutting, turning) allows the conditions of execution to be traced. She weaves connections between these volumes and a two-dimensional practice, where systems of signs emerge through digital photography and drawing, questioning the conditions under which representation comes into being. In doing so, she activates networks of interdependence within the very spaces she inhabits.

Hélène Janicot (b. 1999, France) lives and works in Paris.
Recent solo and duo exhibitions include Sheep are counting me, Taon, Paris (2025), and Horses & Donuts, Concert, Paris (2024). Her work has also been shown in group exhibitions at Villa Belleville, Paris (2025); Le 17 Studiolo, Paris (2025); Beaux-Arts de Paris (2025); Réserves du Frac Île-de-France, Paris (2024); Magma Maria, Frankfurt (2024); Bétonsalon, Paris (2023); Musée du Louvre, Paris (2022); and Off-space ES365, Düsseldorf (2022). She was awarded the Rubis Mécénat Prize (2022) and the Hélène Diamond Foundation drawing grant.
