Claiming Space
Lo Brutto Stahl is thrilled to announce Claiming Space, the first solo exhibition with the gallery by London-based artist Jai Chuhan.
Claiming Space opens on Saturday, May 9 (6–9 pm) in Paris and runs through Saturday, June 20, 2026. It is accompanied by a text written by Omar Kholeif.
Jai Chuhan (b. 1955, Punjab, India) lives and works in London, UK.
Solo exhibitions include: The Approach, London (2025); Harbour House, Kingsbridge (2025); Champ Lacombe, Biarritz (2024); Qrystal Partners, London (2023); Paris Internationale with Champ Lacombe (2023); and Victoria Gallery & Museum, Liverpool (2013).
Her work has been shown in group exhibitions such as: Niru Ratnam, London (2025); Lo Brutto Stahl, Basel (2025); Arnolfini, Bristol (2025, 1991); Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (2022); Tate Liverpool (2013, 1990); Galleria Civica d’Arte Contemporanea, Palermo (1990); Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (1988); and Barbican Centre, London (1988). Recent art fairs include: Art Basel, Basel (2025) and Art Basel, Paris (2025) with The Approach; Frieze London (2025), Art Mumbai (2025) and India Art Fair (2026) with Vadehra Art Gallery.
She was nominated by Peter Doig for the David and Yuko Juda Art Foundation Grant exhibition curated at Annely Juda, London (2024), and her work featured in Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood, curated by Hettie Judah (2024–25).
Her work is held in permanent collections of Tate; Arts Council Collection; Victoria Gallery and Museum, Liverpool; Tameside Museums and Art Galleries; Cartwright Hall, Bradford; Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine; Grosvenor Museum, Chester; The Women’s Art Collection; Usher Gallery, Lincoln; Government Art Collection; and Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, among others.
The artist’s work is also currently on view in Handpicked: Painting Flowers, Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge (2026); Drawing Biennial, London (2026). Upcoming exhibitions include: Lo Brutto Stahl, Basel (2026) and Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi (2026).
